Private For Profit Highways?

Anybody think that it is possible to buy land from landowners and construct for profit highways absent of government intervention?
 
Where would they go...? Gov't did a fairly good job routing our highways.

For sure. Pretty much all roads in the USA started that way (sometimes they needed permission from the state, i.e. charter for a bridge). But it is unfeasible today since you would be competing with the State and the State will tell you how wide your road must be, what the speed limit must be, how often to mainain it, eventually the State will drive you out of business. But if anything, i see the potential in rural/less urbanized areas that growing and will need new roads. but then again, you will be competing with the State and they use your own money to compete with you.
 
Regulating speed limits isn't bad since 3rd parties are involved.

As for how they build it, the market can handle that.

Perhaps one less traveled road just needs to be cheap gravel and the toll for that road would be cheaper.

Businesses that build low quality product are always ended by free market forces.

You're not about to drive your car on a twig vuilt bridge are ya?
