I talked to my guy in LA doing the pro commercial to be aired and they're going to tape the rally at USC for some of the coverage... so make sure tons of people show up to this!!!

The script being used will be something like the 2nd place script, I believe that is #7.

19 was too expensive to create. We'd need to have 5 different shooting days, that's 5 days of renting equipment, 5 days of location, 5 days of paying for set crew.. costing upwards of 10k

So, with this, we might be able to pull it off with 2 or 3 k

uhh.... i'd have to disagree. you could find all of those people, with the exception of the farmer, in the same centralized location....especially in california. just ask a california meetup group and i'm sure you wouldn't have any problem fiding a mom, a soldier, a college kid, and a hispanic/non-native within the same 10 mile radius. Napa Valley ain't that far, is it? Or just cut the farmer out, since time is an issue. No big deal.

i'd think it a better investment of everyone's money to have a more effective issues-based commercial that has the ability to reach a broad audience of people rather than one that A) wasnt even close to being the top vote, and B) simply repeats everything we have already been doing and people generally know about (that Ron Paul has a following and people rally for him). Nothing against #7... i like it... but i dont see how it will interest the casual apathetic voter, nor does it have any sort of message other than "you're missing out!" That might actually turn OFF the old fogeys who think we're "fringe activists!"

i dont know why we even had a vote in the first place at this point...

We are gathering the Troops right now....currently everyone is fired up about putting Irvine atop of the meetup heap.

Ok, ...

You need grip, lighting/sound, camera man, pay for the location, pay for the equipment, and that's just shooting.

I said nothing about the actors. We'll get actors for free. But still, it's an all day of shooting, so you need to pay for food, water, and other things as well.

As far as the 'corn field', they'd need to search for a location, and then shoot at the location, which would be outside LA.

The main expenses are the equipment and the crew. Sound/lighting crew, grips, camera, and also equipment for them to have. We're talking professional equipment, not just some nice camcorder.

And I don't have connections with Steven Spielburg, so I don't have this kind of equipment laying around. Easily 1k per day, and that's like a 200$ a day camera, paying all the crew 50$, having 200$ sound/lighting equipment, 200$ for location time and space, and 200$ for misc expenses.

That's wishful thinking. lol. Min wage out there is like 7.50 an hour.. And we're not having crap equipment. There's a reason it's going to look so much better then the campaign's commercial. *Equipment*

Don't forget about post-production, editing, taping... it's not like a youtube vid, we're talking professional

Good. I want a really fired-up crew, and a totally packed house.

Im hesitant to say but my bro and his girl are full time artists...i don't know if they can help...they have been working on CSI for the last few years

DJ, i understand all that - i really do. I have friends that work in the business professionally as well, and i know how it works. The point was to vote on the best script and adapt it for economical use - not ditch it completely in favor of one that is completely different. You could easily bring all those people to a studio for one shoot - they don't have to be actual location shoots. Thats just one possibility. You could superimpose the background. Thats another. You could interview the people, and scroll still images as yet another idea. There are plenty of things that could be done. I understands this needs to be rushed somewhat, but at the same time - we need to do this right. The message is what is really important here.

ok, I'll talk to my man about it tomorrow and see if we can work something out.

However, the 2nd place script will have Ron Paul speaking to 100s of supporters, of course that wasn't included in the script, but that's what's gonna happen.

It's gonna be the small family rushing to get into the rally, then a Ron Paul soundbyte, then the crowd cheering.. with the final message inlayed into the end. So, the 2nd script will be significantly better then the original. Also, it did place 2nd, so people liked it. I bet if a " Ron Paul soundbyte, crowd goes wild for a few seconds with signs waving" was in the 2nd script, I bet it would have had more votes ;)

Thats cool... thanks. I'm not trying to get all defensive about it, but like everyone here i think we all want to do whats best for the campaign and the message and we all have our opinions on that :) The only thing is... this one was voted on! 43 to 17 is a rather large margin! ::hint hint::

Oh... and FYI... you could easily use the rally footage for the final scene in script #19! Kill two birds with one stone!! ::hint hint again::

I agree Mrs. Doodahs,
Originally we were talking about a different script, and it was going to be on cable so that we could maximize the number of times people see it and it was going to be in NH.

Now Operation NH is being aired in Iowa (a state we wont win) on Broadcast (which will allow us to run 7 commercials a day for a week over several different stations, which means each person might see it once or twice) and theres a completely different script.

Used to be excited about this, now I am wondering????

I think one thing that would be good would be to ensure that we have some ethnic diversity in any commercial. RP is still being slandered and many people are still holding onto a false idea of RP - not to put too fine a point on it. I know there are all sorts of people of every conceivable ethnicity who support Ron Paul - I would like to see something sometime using actual RP supporters of all ethnic stripes simply saying "I support Ron Paul". I would like to see this lie killed - that Ron Paul is not for all people - once and for all. I think the best way to do that is to show the various ethnicity of the people who actually support RP. Not to derail the thread or anything. I think going with #7 is fine. Doing that maybe we can do even another commercial. Maybe we can do one which incorporates what people like about #19 in some other less costly way. We have to be very careful not to out think ourselves or to get tied up in knots about things that aren't critical. My personal opinion is that we leave the final decision to the people who are actually going to the trouble of making this happen.

Dude, we're not trying to 'ignore' the vote. You guys act like we're just blowing yall off, like 'oh we can just do anything we want'. The guy running this (skiingff) didn't really think about the costs going into a production like this.

Yeah, 19 is nice and personally I like it as well. But there's just too many things to put together and it's just going to be to costly. Already making the script cheaper, it's still going to be expensive, money that wasn't exactly thought of in the beginning. We're trying to do the best we can with what we have. If yall are really pissed about it, talk to skiingff, he's the one who calls the shots on this.

But give us a break. We're doing the best we can, and even if we did all 5 shots in 1 day, that's just so unlikely... It would take like at least 3-6 hours per shot. Then, they'd have to move locations, not to mention get everybody in the right place at the right time on the same day? If you guys want something crap thrown together, then by all means, I'll tell my guy to just get some people together and throw something together, no big deal. But if you guys want a nice, smooth, laid out commercial, you've got to get real here.

DJ - i'm not giving you any flak over this. But it is a valid question - people voted, and people contributed money towards this project... so naturally it is a concern when the project suddenly veers off in a different direction with no warning.

If you'd like me to PM you some ways to make this more feasible, i'll do that. I'll even consult my friend who edits news and commercials for a living and get his advice. But i think i already listed a handful of ways that would be even more economical to do and look more professional than a location film shoot of a rally.

Theres no reason at all why this has to be "crap".. as you put it. If its edited smoothly, and the people are heartfelt - then it will work. I know you said your people are used to doing uh...adult entertainment. I'm guessing that entails a lot of location footage and not the most detailed editing work. I hope thats not part of the reason why things are being changed up. If it is, like i said.. i know some editors. I might be able to work something out and get you help. Again - the point of all of this is to attract casual voters to Dr. Paul. Casual voters dont care about political rallys. Its nice, but everyone has political rallys. Some are even annoyed by them. I'm simply suggesting you take a little time and talk to a few people before rushing into anything and possibly pissing off a bunch of people who donated money and now see it going to something other than what they were donating to. The script can be adapted if you are willing to make it work. That is the question here.
