Eh, a little over-speculative. I don't like Obama's Marxist trends much, but Russian used to be a lot more commonly studied than it is today. I used to hear stories from the University I graduated from about how huge and populated by eager students the Russian Dept was in the Cold War heyday. It was like Arabic is now in Universities: very popular.

but Russian used to be a lot more commonly studied than it is today.

Indeed. It was still offered at my poor rural midwestern public high school in the early 90's. I had two years of it, was a fun language, not that I remember much of it now. It doesn't surprise me one bit it was offered in kansas in the 60's.

Secondly, Obama's parents were heavily involved in left wing politics. When you look at the Russian classes from that perspective, it just adds more weight to my contention that Obama, and his parents...were all communists...

And if you're still not convinced....have a look at his economic policies that he's ramming down our throats.

You say Obama's policies are not communist?....Ownership of GM? Ownership of banks? Bailouts? Surrender of US sovereignty? Setting wages?

If McCarthy was right, why did HE never give proof? Even if McCarthy was right on a few was he right on all of them? If not, was it worth it? The burden of proof was on McCarthy to prove his accusations, and he failed miserably.

Communism is complete shared ownership and production of all products. Socialism is all domestic production within a state and a strong safety-net for individuals. We have never had a communist, let alone purely socialist, state.

Obama has nationalized maybe 1% of the economy. That is hardly communism. Sure, he allows alot of corporatism in the US structure. So have most presidents since the later 1800s. But they weren't communist; they simply had a flawed view of economics.

We've had a minimum wage for a long time. We have lost sovereignty for a long time. Has every president been communist? No. Were they often erroneous in their beliefs? Yes.

If people choose to believe communism, it is because people like you and me have not won the battle of ideas and proved communism's failures. Communism in its end form is actually quite idealistic. I voluntary type of communal ownership that results in a utopia. Unfortunately, Marx's problem is the means he advocates towards that end.

Besides that, communists or socialists do have it right in some instances. They oppose many uses of force, just not government force. Even then, they oppose government force on say imperialistic wars. They fight for equal rights of all people, even if their ends to such a vision may be flawed. There are positives where we can work with people in any group. Similarly, there are flaws in any group.
