WASHINGTON — It was a room full of people who rarely hold their tongues. But as the Fed chairman, Ben S. Bernanke, laid out the potentially devastating ramifications of the financial crisis before congressional leaders on Thursday night, there was a stunned silence at first.

As Senator Christopher J. Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut and chairman of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, put it Friday morning on the ABC program “Good Morning America,” the congressional leaders were told “that we’re literally maybe days away from a complete meltdown of our financial system, with all the implications here at home and globally.”

Mr. Schumer added, “History was sort of hanging over it, like this was a moment.”

When Mr. Schumer described the meeting as “somber,” Mr. Dodd cut in. “Somber doesn’t begin to justify the words,” he said. “We have never heard language like this.”

Great - we're teetering on the edge of the cliff and all of the sudden Congress is here to help. Why do I get the feeling they are going to provide enough inertia just to push us over the edge?! I mean they have gotten us this far already..... damn this pisses me off.

So is it really time for all of us to do a final check through our SHTF supply lists???

Hold the freakin' presses!

Isn't our friend Ron Paul a member of the Committee on Financial Services and the Joint Economic Committee? The whole room is not keeping their tongue if Ron is in the house! What the hell is going on?

Give it to them Ron! Don't the US citizens have any other advocates?

This is "blow smoke up our ____" BS....to "sugar coat" the MASSIVE socialist/fascist takeover by BANKERS (i.e. "taxation without representation")....

the truth is the elite are poised to lose a ton by their own doing and they have to have back room deals cut to save their asses (as usual, with the dumb ass public picking up the tab like we do for all the dead beat loans of the IMF/World bank, Israeli defaults, etc. and etc.

How come the News just reported that NASA is giving a 450 MILLION dollar grant to a US university to study MARS weather???

Pure BS like the "boogeyman terrorist" to convince the sheep that they need to have their wallets raped.

Mr. Schumer said. “That hasn’t happened before. IT'S A BRAVE NEW WORLD. You are in uncharted territory, but the one thing you do know is you can’t leave them frozen or the economy will just head south at a rapid rate.”

whats with all the new world order, and new world speak lately?! i somewhat believe in the NWO but this is making it hard not to believe.

No kidding. They have heard this before and chose to ignore it and keep contributing.

The analyst quoted by Chaobao Financial News highlighted “that when there is market failure, the paramount purpose of government intervention should be saving the market for the benefit of the people: Relief, Recovery and then Reform,” and that “Protecting the rights of people who are suffering in the housing market and as a result of high oil prices should be treated as a priority.”

even china thinks that we dont care about our own people, thats shitty to hear from a country that had baby girls left in the woods to die for depopulation.

If they truely cared they would call off their navy blockade they are setting up on Iran, attempting to provoke another Gulf of Tolkien incident. Then they would bring the troops home and pump half a trillion into building new bases here in America to house the troops. Tell the world they are sorry but we are no longer the police of the world. Oh and everything else Ron said that will fix the economy.

Moraturium on payroll taxes for employees and employers...suspend FICA, suspend Social Security contributions etc. etc.

Scaring the congress into doing whatever they ask, nice.

Of course it may be true but that's the only reason they are saying anything about it.

So they are saying IF you don't do this then we will collapse? Or are they saying, we can stop the bleeding a bit before the collapse?

I just wrote my congress person telling him what I think. This won't be an easy decision for these guys unless they are Ron Paul.
Dear Mr. Hayes,

As I talk with the folks there is a swelling of tension concerning what is right and what is just, and how to proceed in America. Citizens are feeling outraged at our government in ways I've never experienced before. While I'm a Repulican, I think it's time we really look at what is going on here in America. The Federal Reserve was supposed to prevent this failure through their creation. Yet now they run to congress for approval, so the blood can be on our representatives hands, and the people will pay back the faults of greed and corruption. President Bush was nowhere to be found in meetings concerning the AIG bailouts, yet he can maticulously move our Navy into a blockade of Iran in an attempt to provoke another Gulf of Tolkien Incident.

The citizens of the United States may not be the most interested in politics, but they are starting to distaste the lack of courage from those elected to serve us. Party Politics MUST STOP TODAY. It's time to hold this administration accountable for thier lack of concern for the American people, for our country, and for the constitution.

If you must vote on this recent Bush administration economy package, and as the FED has stated that failure to not vote yes we may experience a total collapse. I would ask you to vote yes, only under the condition that immediate criminal RICO investigations are opened on the FED and the Bush administration articles of impeachment are sent for inquiry.

These bailouts are not a light matter, and neither are threats of a collapse. We have already listened to this President lie to congress. I will not stand by as my country is hi-jacked by greed, fraud, and theft. Please for the sake of our country...investigate these bastards!

Respectfully,

Well for one thing I am pretty sure that the "intervention" isn't foremost "government" but CENTRAL BANKING CARTEL (to protect their bottom line) the "Gov." seems to be pretty content to have handed the "keys" over to the "experts"?? All they have to do is argue about whether they are going to "rubber stamp it" or NOT..... (real leadership...but what do you expect from ignoramuses that are only hired henchmen??)

If there were "genuine" concern for the people they could learn something from Murray Rothbards book on the great depression (where INTERVENING in His opinion PROLONGED SUFFERING as the book describes in details)...but "TOUGH LOVE" is not what you would call "politically correct" even if it is INTELLIGENT.

Genuine concern would be focused on the EXAMPLE set for continued MORAL HAZARD (lets REWARD incompetence and bad decision making!!! BRILLIANT).

The paramount concern for the Gov. is to take their rightful responsibility of issuing HONEST MONEY (to protect the peoples work and savings)....Forget about the MARKET (which DISHONEST monetary policy requires PERPETUAL GROWTH which is not sustainable).

The MONEY is the problem.

And just who did all of this SHIT to us? Congress critters over time, and the sheeple that just continue to vote for them.

And the talking heads (MSM) and babbling heads (bush) keep saying. Economy is real strong. No recession here. Reminds me of communist propaganda on TV 24/7 when I was young living in Poland.

I have a few questions about this collapse.

Did "they" cause it purposefully? If so how many people were in on the plan? Is Paulson and Bernanke just economics idiots who think they are doing their most to a) save the economy and b) save themselves financially at the last minute? Are Paulson and Bernanke experts and "caused this mess" on purpose?

Ron Paul seems to think "MOST" people are just confused. So I would guess if this was "planned" only a few "planned" it and then duped Congress, Greenspan, and Bernanke into creating the mess. Reading Bernanke's book/essays might shed some light on exactly what he knows.

Greenspan seemed at times to be for the gold standard. So he must have known what he was doing to some extent. Maybe not.

Ron Paul ran for President because he thought he could make a difference. So he must be either wise or out of the loop.

I think I would feel better if this meltdown was just a huge mistake and not "planned".

As a Christian this smells like the end of the world. Of course 1932's economic mess must have felt like the end of the world too. I expect the EU to collapse because of things I have learned in the Bible about "Europe uniting".

This is going to be one wild ride the next few years.
