Peggy Noonan is full of shit, as usual. The first part of that piece is her usual attempt to communicate with the WSJ-reading hoi polloi using the irritating rhetorical techniques that speechwriters think help communicate emotion.
This is followed up by a typical attack against Obama, accompanied by a pro-McCain bit.
Round it all off with a statement about how Bush has abandoned conservatives, and what do you get?
A strongly Pro-McCain piece that only has to use John McCain's name twice. Peggy Noonan may be dumb, but she isn't stupid. She knows how to draw silent contrasts. The piece could be summarized in the following sentences: "Flight security is horrible and humiliating, and it it President Bush's fault. Obama is a snooty lefty who hates small-town (i.e. rural conservatives) America, and Hillary doesn't like it very much either, but she's not as bad as Obama. McCain, on the other hand, loves it. It's in his bones, man. John McCain loves America. Bush hates the small town American and has abandoned them, and John McCain is Ronald Reagan."
I hate Peggy Noonan.
