Need Help Understanding Florida Amendments for the Upcoming Election

1. Removes a part of previous legislation limiting property rights to illegal aliens, so illegal aliens can have same property ownership rights as citizens in essence.

2. Male & Female marriage only, no gay marriage rights.

3. Removes a part of previous legislation that if a homeowner installs an alternative energy device or makes the structure more wind resistant, he gets a tax exemption; so now he does not get the tax exemption.

4. Adds tax exemption for land dedicated as conservation.

5. Defining waterfront property for its use for tax purposes.

2. Male & Female marriage only, no gay marriage rights.

Amendment 2 is much broader than that. The actual text of the amendment is:

Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."

THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN BLATANT DISCRIMINATION BEING WRITTEN INTO OUR STATE'S CONSTITUTION!

If passed, the amendment will ban all recognition and benefits for unmarried couples, straight and gay. It will block civil unions, domestic partnership and repeal existing protections and family benefits relied upon by millions of Floridians.

The fact is that Florida law ALREADY prohibits same-sex marriage (s. 741.212(1), Florida Statutes), and defines “marriage” as the legal union between one man and one woman and provides that the term “spouse” applies only to a member of such a union (s. 741.212(1),(3), Florida Statutes). Florida also has a "Defense" of Marriage Law DOMA, that was adopted in 1997 and codified as s. 741.212, Florida Statutes.

In my opinion, this amendment is a milking mechanism to get more anti-gay idiots to the polls on election day (and also perhaps as an attempt to salvage a Republican win in Florida).

You should also be aware that Florida4Marriage is the primary group backing the amendment. They are an umbrella group for a far right coalition that includes representatives of the Florida Catholic Conference and Florida Baptist Convention. The group gets the bulk of its disclosed financial support from the Florida Republican Party.

I find it repulsive that anyone would consider voting for this amendment (ESPECIALLY if you here on these forums), and I am a happily married straight guy.

People who aren't married can get all the benefits through contracts....I learned that from guess who? RON PAUL! DINGDINGDIGN DIGNNNNNNG!

How does 1 figure out if a person is a legal or an illegal citizen. And if one is illegal, shouldn't that person be deported unless that person passes the citizenship test?

what about #8, about the local option for cc.

i don't want my taxes going up period.

I would not mind locally paying a little extra to help people go to college. However, I would want it to be a very small tax. I wouldn't mind paying say a penny on the dollar, but I wouldn't want to pay much more than that. From what I am understanding about the rest, I'll just vote no.

A determination needs to be outlined stating exactly who is eligable for the CC benefit.
If it is demographic limited with favoritism for certain groups only, then it should be killed.
If every color and social class can benefit, then ok, otherwise....bullhockey.

1. No
2. No
3. No
4. Yes
6. Yes
8. No - that tax will find itself into the general fun. Don't buy into their bullshit AGAIN.

Don't fall for any more educrat policies trying to get everyone to go to college. All it is doing is making everyone who goes think they are superior and entitled, and then making the degree itself worthless for people who actually deserve it. Education is currently experiencing its own "bubble" of sorts, we can't go around having everyone think they are above working with their hands, that is why we have the illegal immigration problem.
