My thoughts for our free press project

I am thinking we need to have a structure that allows for many individuals to bring together their own creativity. For example imagine that we call it the United Free Press. There could be a website and TV station. I am starting to think that a website would be the best basis as it could include video. My thought is that as we move into the future more people will want their news on demand and computers allow that more than TV.

It needs to have integrity above everything else. We can not be afraid to criticize even our favorite people like Ron Paul if they need it. We must not become hypocritical. We would have no need for news on entertainment, style, family, cooking or even sports. Let’s stick to important matters that need TRUTH like politics and business. Opinion pieces should be clearly separated from the factual news pieces.

My vision is to have a free press that guards America from abuses of government. The Founders mentioned a free press in the Constitution for good reason. The freedom of the press is needed to protect liberty from runaway government. We need to remind America that our nation was created to allow the citizens to be free. The fundamental reasons that our Founders included freedom of the press in our Constitution should be a good foundation for us.

I have also bee thinking that video pieces online would be great because they would be ready made for youtube and emailing. This will allow us to quickly grow the network. Many bands are starting to allow free downloading of music because they it is more valuable to grow the audience and then make their money on concert tickets and merchandise. Online video pieces for us would be much more inline with the new America that is rejecting print and TV in favor of the internet.

We could probably even examine The Onion as an example for structure. I believe they started off as a small college newspaper. They grew into books and radio spots and now have video segments. The Onion is satirical news.

I agree that there would be no need for any kind of entertainment news but I think that some kind of in depth report, maybe once a week or even once a month on issues that affect families like health news, home schooling etc. would be helpful for getting a wider audience.

Things similar to what John Stossel did about the education system would help people understand better why big government is the problem and not the answer and there are so many different topics to choose from that affect everyday life.

I am speaking as a nurse / mother / grandmother so this is just my perspective coming from an older generation than most of you.
I do think that in addition to news we would have the opportunity to educate many people and encourage them to think for themselves.

Advocating self reliance is important because of the way people have been conditioned to believe that they need government to make decisions for them for the past 30 or more years.

I think that just politics and business may limit the audience.

You're in the right place.

That's exactly the kind of thing we're talking about here.

Good idea. There has been some discussion about producing our own documentary-type shows, which should definitely include the types of subjects you've mentioned.

It doesn't have to be positioned as "politics", but a lot of the subjects you mentioned have political aspects to them. Electing the wrong people to office can seriously impact your ability to pursue the health or education options of your choice, for example. So for example in a show about home schooling, would it be reasonable to say that certain candidates or political parties are against it, or to discuss the ways that the Dept of Education interferes with it?

Why not have a social news community decide what the news is? The TV broadcasts could talk about the top stories at the site. It could be kind of like digg and diggnation.

The site could allow for posting responses to headlines. Anyone could make a video commentary and connect it to a popular headline. Let users vote on which response are best.

I think the goal should be to encourage citizen journalism/punditry. What if there was a show that put the best video responses on the air? People would use the site and watch the channel just to get on TV.
