I was listening to Merle Haggard's "Are the good times really over" song on the radio this morning, and it gave me an idea.

One thing this movement could really use is a country music artist and a pop music artist to spread our message.

Recruiting an existing one would be hard, but perhaps there is talent enough between musicians and songwriters on this very board, that will a little hard work, and some creative editing we could put together a band, make music videos, and spread them via the internet at first until maybe people would start requesting us for shows.

Any musicians out there?

I'm good at lyrics, but no so good at original sounds, and trumpet is not common in popular music.

I'm a professional singer and a halfway decent songwriter.

I love the idea of forming some kind of Ron Paul music project!

I've been working on stuff with Freemama. Hopefully we can get some stuff done to help push the message.

But I certainly can help here also.

I've always been a big fan of Arlo Guthrie - and he's even a Ron Paul supporter!

From Wikipedia said:
Guthrie endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the 2008 Republican Party nomination. He said, "I love this guy. Dr. Paul is the only candidate I know of who would have signed the Constitution of the United States had he been there. I'm with him, because he seems to be the only candidate who actually believes it has as much relevance today as it did a couple of hundred years ago. I look forward to the day when we can work out the differences we have with the same revolutionary vision and enthusiasm that is our American legacy.

My favourite song is the simple story about a man who likes motorcycles :) (skip to 5:35 if you wish :p)

He also does a version of a Tom Paxton classic he calls "I'm changing my name to Fannie Mae" :D But his best known song is prolly Alice's Restaurant :) Prolly best enjoyed on 420.

I haven't come up with chorus yet to really drum it into a listener's head, but this is a poem that could easily be put to music.

Any thoughts?

Freedom, Freedom
It’s worth fighting for
To buy my own house
Or run my own store
The fruits of my labor
Are only for me
No tyrant can take
From true liberty.

The freedom to live
My life as I please
To worship or act
Like the birds and the bees.
No action of mine
Should be under control
Of government, church
Or corporate cabal.

So long as I honor
The trust and good faith
That I’ll never intrude
On your personal space
By harming your life
Liberty, property.
Don’t take away mine
I deserve to be free!

What gives you the power
To force my hand?
Are you scared of the flu,
Of Iraq or Iran?
Is your safety in danger
From some bogeyman?
So that makes it okay
To put chains on a man?

I pledge to you all
On the liberty bell
That I’ll never give in
And I won’t be impelled
To give up my freedoms
Because you’re afraid
Of what someone may do
Of what others may say

I promise you now
The Constitution won’t burn
that my personal choices
Are not your concern
That we all have the strength
To stand up and fight
For personal freedom
And individual rights!

I can do a choral setting for it if ya want. (and give me credit for it, of course) :)
