Most of the delegates will be elected as a slate?

"A nominating committee will be elected during the District presidential Caucus (convention); two members from each congressional district. This nominating committee is commissioned with the task of putting a slate together to be elected as “at large” delegates. This at-large slate is presented to the delegates prior to the state convention and the convention delegates have the opportunity to approve or decline this slate at a specified time during the convention. Contact someone from the Republican Party of Iowa to ask who is serving on the nominating committee. If you were unsuccessful in your attempts at the District Presidential Caucus (convention), you may still 1obby the nomination committee to place your name on the slate. You should be aware, however, that the slate typically consists of high level Republican activists or leaders and one’s best opportunity to serve as a National Delegate comes at the District Presidential Caucus (convention)."

So if I understand this process correctly RP supporters would either need to be on the nominating committee or would have to have enough votes to reject the slate created by the nominating committee.

Sounds like this is more of an all or nothing process than I had supposed before. It seems that the slate would typically be composed of party loyalists who could be counted on to close ranks behind John McCain rather than newcomers that could be RP supporters.

Am I understanding this process correctly?
If so, it is going to be even harder to insert RP delegates piecemeal.

I'm not sure how Iowa works but in Texas the commitee makes up a slate and presents it to the delegation for a vote. Generally, what the commitee recommends will stand. Therefore I HIGHLY suggest you talk to the commitee BEFORE they complete their slate. It's easier to persuade a small commitee than a large delegation. If the RP supporters are in the majority you can run the show. It really doesn't matter when you get the majority, you can practically redo the convention when you do (lookup reconsider and rescind motions).

Two more things: First, (in the tx gop) anyone who voted in the republican primary can be a delegate. They don't have to even show up. Second, put RP supporters in even if they won't go on to state. They're choking out non-supporters anyway.

There is a person we need to contact if we wish to be on the national delegate slate in Iowa. This person essentially has control of who's on in Iowa and who isn't. You'll need to be pro-life, pro-marriage, and pro-family. Send me a PM if you're interested.
