P2008: The GOP fundraising numbers are in from the first-tier guys. Rudy Giuliani won the contest, with $10.5 million collected in 3Q-07. Mitt Romney was next with $9.5 million, followed by Fred Thompson with $9.3 million. Giuliani also has $16 million cash-on-hand, versus Romney's $9 million cash-on-hand. Important to note: $8.5 million of Romney's cash-on-hand came from yet another loan the wealthy candidate recently made to his own campaign. Including this recent infusion of cash, Romney has already pumped over $17 million of his own money into his campaign coffers.

For pure hey-check-this-out effect, however, he biggest story in the third quarter among the Republican candidates may have been what two of the lesser candidates did — or didn't do. Libertarian-Republican Ron Paul exploited his online following to dun supporters for some $5 million in contributions. Besides being not much less than what former frontrunner McCain did, it was five times what Mike Huckabee brought on.

The recipient of considerable buzz after his second-place finish at the Ames Straw Poll in August, Huckabee failed to use that moment in the sun to galvanize any financial support. That Huckabee released his disappointing figure within hours of Paul disclosing his surprising sum made the figure look worse. It will be difficult for Huckabee to make the case that he’s the one to take on the other Arkansan in the race if she’s outraising him 22 to 1. But then, by the end of the next quarter, the other Republicans may be a bit closer to such a disparity themselves.

That's really amazing.

Question: Where did you find the information about Romney's "donations" to himself? If the corporate media reported that, Romney would be sunk.
Must be embarassing for him.

And as for Giuliani and Thompson's numbers, obviously that means that media coverage = $$$. Seeing as how Thompson has been less than impressive, apparently HQ was exactly right when they said that they'd get $10 million worth of publicity from the Q3 totals. (Man...they really know their stuff! )

I won't be surprised if Ron Paul rakes in far more than $10 million from this, though--considering the money Obama is making, largely because he is falsely promoted and, thus, perceived as the new man with the plan (who is anti-war--but not really).

So what's going to happen when Ron Paul hits the scene?! He's the truly anti-war candidate. He's the only one who would actually bring our troops home, protect our boarders, keep us "secure," repair our economy, and release us from the chains of big government, giving us back our Freedom.

New 3rdQ Numbers


Rudy Giuliani's camp announced today that Giuliani raised "over" $11M in the 3rdQ (more than $10.5M for the primary), and has "over" $16M CoH. The camp notes, "for the second quarter in a row," Giuliani "leads" the GOP field in fundraising.

Giuliani manager Mike DuHaime: "In a continued sign of growing support, our campaign has led the Republican field for the second quarter in a row in the fundraising race. We're receiving real support from across the country because voters know Rudy Giuliani is the only candidate who has proven leadership, executive experience and can beat the Democrats in November."

Meanwhile, John McCain's campaign will likely report $6M in contribs for the quarter and $3.6M on hand 9/30.

Camp mgrRick Davis: "We are thrilled that with so many Americans supporting John McCain, we're now on sound financial footing and running a robust campaign gaining clear momentum in the early states. Heading into the fall, we have the resources to communicate that John McCain is the only candidate with the experience, character and judgment to lead as commander in chief from day one."

That means, for those keeping count, that McCain outraised Ron Paul by roughly $1M.

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney raised $10 million in the three months that ended Sept. 30 and lent his campaign an additional $8.5 million, ending with $9 million in the bank. Former senator Fred D. Thompson (Tenn.) raised about $9 million, aides said. Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) raised $6 million and had $3.6 million in cash on hand. And Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) capitalized on grass-roots enthusiasm for his maverick candidacy, raising just over $5 million.

Overall, Republican presidential candidates trailed Democrats in fundraising by nearly $100 million -- a gap that is unprecedented in 30 years.

All of his supporters need to donate as much as they can.

The calendar this year is unlike any previous: accelerated and condensed. If we're not up there with the big boys, all of our YouTubes aren't going to cut it. Generating free media is huge--this can be done by the campaign but difficult with so many candidates and the compressed calendar. Local groups and activists should focus on getting local media coverage (positive, media coverage).

What is amazing is that we have done this fundraising so far in the face of being told Ron Paul has "no chance".

If we can just wake people up and if we could get $10 from every person who agrees with him but doesn't want to "throw money away" on a losing candidate
we would have 10 x the money and 100 x the supporters of any other candidate.

Oh wait, we already have 100 x the supporters of any other candidate. Make it 1000 times.
