"...for America to wake up!" and really reevaluate foreign policy in it's relation to terrorism. :(

A very good interview with Michael Scheuer on Conversations with History show, the last 20min are very interesting. He says that america is very educated, but also at the same time uneducated in it's own history. And it is very unacceptable that the politicians don't even know the history of the very country they're steering into the future.

We're not thinking correctly, so hopefully another terror attack will set our minds straight.

You are more optimistic than I am...

If there’s another major terrorist attack on American soil, here’s my prediction: Congress will again wake up from its slumber and respond positively to the president’s call for PATRIOT Acts 2, 3, and 4, followed by new rounds of indefinite military detentions, illegal wiretapping, kidnappings and renditions, censorship, and more.

I hope you are right and I am wrong, but I doubt it.

Haven't you noticed, anytime anything remotely scary happens it is used as justification for more laws, taxation, and wars on verbs.

It's turned us into a country of P*ssies that looks to the government anytime we feel scared or want something special.

Freedom comes with personal responsibility, spread the word.

Hmm, I learned alot about Micheal Scheuer's views watching this. Particularly what he talks around 40:00.

Though I can't quite read him. Earlier on in the interview he seems to say that a lack of strong military action and an excess of covert action is in part responsible for our mess. Anyone have any thoughts on that or could explain it better?

we've been afraid to use our military effectively and ruthlessly ever since WW2 ended (we now prefer long, drawn out, "police" actions), so we've relied more and more on the CIA to do our dirty work, which means the CIA gets a worse rep than it deserves.

We wouldn't need rendition programs and secret prisons if we simply allowed our military to slaughter our enemies quickly and then leave the region.

Scheuer has really made a point to tell the public that we had opportunities in the past to take care of Bin Laden but the politicians were to afraid of what other countries would think of them. He's stated before that he is not totally anti-war and anybody that thinks all problems can be handle without use of force, covertly through CIA or militarily, are niave. But he does believe that all other means should be exhausted before making such decisions in foreign policy.

I don't remember if it was mentioned in this interview, but Scheuer played a major role in setting up the rendition program along with his position as the head of the CIA's Bin Laden unit...

9/11 brought us the Patriot Act and more. Why would another terrorist attack have a different effect than what we have already seen?

Because we have started a revolution since then. People are waking up.
