Because he is presented to them as the answer. It doesn't matter the question, he is a War Hero, and is the answer.

Seriously - read through his endorsements: Economy, War/Security, and being able to work in Washington. Those are the reasons people vote for him.

He will kill the economy, continue the squandering of our forces and GDP on international security, and continue to drag all of Washington down the Largess hole.

No one seems to be listening but us. He promises a hundred years of war, they vote for him because he'll bring the troops home. He calls Putin the "president" of Germany, they vote for him because of foreign policy experience. He dumps uranium on Navajo lands and helps Exxon get out of paying damages for their negligent oil spills, they vote for him because he's liberal enough to be compassionate. It is utterly amazing.
