Paul’s words diminish the sacrifices of many

Thursday, May 29, 2008 12:00 PM CDT

I do not know Mr. Ron Paul, but was stunned May 17 to read on Page 1A, that in his opinion, the terrorists are upset because we invaded their land.

My goodness, how soon some people forget. They invaded us, Mr. Paul, do you not remember the first World Trade Center attack or Sept. 11?

Or, perhaps, you have forgotten the attack on the USS Stark, and the attack on the USS Cole. I would like to believe you are a sincere person, please show respect to all who have given both you and I the right to speak our minds.

It seems to me that you have diminished the sacrifice that so many have made, so that we all may live and prosper.

There's a "Submit a letter" button you can click half-way up the page where you can reply to this non-sense. Bring your A-game and quality writing please!

BUMP!

Allright I'm issuing an APB to all decent writers, someone should have something good to say to this Lutz. She may be related to Lionel ya know! :D

This person just wrote a letter to the editor based on mass media propaganda lies and spin against RP. But this is what happens when "mainstream" people take what they're told at face value and believe it to be absolute fact, without even the slightest amount of research. This is exactly why America is on the path it is. So sad.

I guess it would seem that way if all you had was CNN and Fox News. I guess someone should point out we were invading them long before 9/11. It seems impossible to get through to someone like "June Lutz", they've got some good kool-aid.

I do not know June Lutz, but was stunned May 30 to read on BG's Daily News website, that in her opinion, the terrorists are not upset because we invaded their land.

My goodness, how soon some people forget. we invaded them, Mrs. Lutz, do you not remember when we installed a foreign leader in Iran in the 50's, do you not remember putting military bases in Saudi Arabia?

Or, perhaps, you have forgotten the attack on Iraq in the Persian Gulf War, and the continue arming of Israel.

I would like to believe you are a sincere person, please educate yourself (turn off your tv) by researching our foreign involvement in the Middle East.

It seems to me that you have diminished wisdom for our founding fathers, the constitution and our economic viability. Ron Paul is speaking the truth and the sooner "the sheeple" realize it, the better.

The only people diminishing people's sacrifices are the fascists in our government and the pretentious, ignorant fools that write crap like this.

This is in response to Mr. Lutz's letter published online on May 29, 2008.

My goodness how soon some people forget. It is was not Dr. Paul's opinion that "the terrorists are upset because we invaded their land" as you state but this is actually a statement from Osama Bin Laden while addressing his supporters and Americans in one of his video's after 9/11.

Contrary to what you have been told the terrorists are not "cold blooded killers" who hate us for the sake of hating us. They have an agenda and a reason for the campaign they are currently waging.

We've had bases in the middle east and specifically Saudi Arabia for decades. This is the invasion they reference since the Arabian Peninsula is their land in their minds and having "infidels" occupying military bases there is an insult to them.

Of course this is extreme and I don't agree with their interpretations of Islamic law or text or actions but we must understand why they do what they do.

I for one would be outraged if a Chinese or Russian military base were setup 20 miles down the road and you can bet a good number of my compatriots would be as well. America doesn't have a single foreign military base on our lands and we would never permit one. You don't think that if this fictional base were to open up with 15000 foreign troops possibly Islamic or of some other culture on our shores that Americans would feel threatened no matter how benign the bases occupants claimed to be? The only purpose of having a military base somewhere is to exert control and influence. It is a show of force that reminds those in the area that we’re watching.

Remember that we were terrorists in the eyes of the British at one time. They were a foreign power controlling Americans with troops from afar.

The sooner we understand these groups motivations the safer we will all be in the long run.

the basic thing that these people cannot understand is that "terrorists" are human. they require motivation to become radicalized in order to carry out terrorism. it's as if the MSM bullshit eater sees a terrorist as some kind of shadowy alien sub-human monster. a severe lack of common sense is present in this persons opinion, to say the least.

Terrorists are people too! There's something we can march to.

I know what you're saying, but be careful with that one.

Hmm, my Home town paper growning up. Sad.

Heres my response. Like so many of the issues I wish the answer didn't have to be so involved.

In response to June Lutz's letter Thursday, May 29, 2008. I contend that Dr. Ron Paul is standing shoulder to shoulder with our men in uniform. He has collected more in donations from active duty military members than all other presidential candidates combined. As a veteran and a staunch conservative who has served since that attack I say with pride and some sadness that Dr. Paul has been almost a lone voice in Congress advocating for our Constitution since the terrorist attacks of Sept 11.

Our men and women in uniform swear an oath to defend the Constitution. That Constitution protects Ms. Lutz and everyone in this country, only as far as it is not ignored by our government. Liberty and personal freedoms always suffer in the face of perpetual war. I say perpetual because surely it is. Terrorism is a tactic that can be combated only as well as you might conduct a war on jealousy.

Ron Paul voted to take the fight to the terrorist in Afghanistan. This countries almost irrelevant segue into Iraq has done nothing but insight hatred of our culture in future generations. This has been Ron Paul's contention for his entire campaign. The hidden tragedy of this conflict is that people are clamoring for our liberties to be sacrificed every day while simultaneously our soldiers are dieing away from home while as it happens.
