Kuwait's Asians feel pinch of India rice export ban
source

...Kuwait is already reeling under the impact of unprecedented inflation, with prices of basic foodstuffs registering more than 50 percent rise in the last few months. With inflation hitting an annual rate of 7.3 percent last October, people in this oil rich country find it hard to balance their monthly family budget.

...Many believe the Indian decision is likely to have a global impact as the country is the third largest exporter of rice -- a staple food in many countries. India had restricted its rice exports a few months back on account of what they called 'poor harvest' in the last few years. "This ban may be India's answer to the high oil prices," comments Abdul Salam, a Sri Lankan driver working with a private company without really knowing the implications of his statement.

So, is it safe to say there is a world-wide food supply/economic disaster looming over our heads??

Three killed in Haiti food riots

At least three people were killed and 20 wounded when demonstrations against rising food prices turned into riots in southern Haiti, officials say.
Reports say scores of people went on the rampage in the town of Les Cayes, blocking roads, looting shops and shooting at UN peacekeepers.
The UN said its personnel had opened fire at some of the armed protesters.
For two days running, parts of Haiti have been erupting into violence triggered by the soaring cost of food.
The prices of rice, beans and fruit have gone up by 50% in the last year.
Earlier this week, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued a report saying that the food crisis threatened the Caribbean nation's fragile security.

Yea, I think it`s safe to say that. :(

the un needs to get the fuck out of everyones business and we need to END THEM a.s.a.p.

let a country run itself and stop assuming other nations will simply come to its rescue when its domination is not going to plan.

Why the fuck would you SHOOT at people who want food? Its not the un's place to do that no matter what the reason.

That is like charging me with shooting someone who is in my house , WHO SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Get the un out, break it up and lets go back to OUR OWN COUNTRIES.

The only rice worth buying for healthy eating is organic rice.......

Not only to avoid GMO varieties but to avoid enrichment.

Enrichment is a process used on Grains, and Flours where the iron is stripped out then added again......

Enriched rice and flours are a bane of good health.....the reason is the process that strips the iron and reinjects it makes the iron unabsorbale by the human body.....

The reason the food companies do this is to sell more....when you eat bread made with enriched flour or enriched rice.....the body feels full......but senses no nutrition.....thus making the body hungry again thus resulting in increased consumption.....

If you want rice, go organic to not only avoid GMO but to avoid the enrichment process.....same with breads and flour......

Look at your store you usually shop.....see how many rices or breads that are not organic used enrichment, pretty much all rice...and most breads......wonder why america is so fat? Enriched grains and products made from them are DEFINATELY part of the problem.

Actually, it's more than just iron. White rice is white because the outer covering has been removed. Brown rice is just rice that has been left intact -- i.e., whole grain.

Even if you don't buy in to the whole non-GMO/organic thing, it seems kinda silly to remove the part of the grain containing most of the vitamins, and then replace some of those vitamins through "enrichment". Personally, I think whole grains taste better anyway.

It's irresponsible to be pushing non-enriched grains.

Enriched grains are THE reason why this country so rarely sees the diseases of pellagra and beriberi, and why cleft palate is decreasing.
