Few days ago POTUS Trump had compared himself to Abe Lincoln again. This should bolster his ongoing messaging on this and White House led minorities outreach initiatives and pro social justice/BLM/civil rights/diversity campaign.
If confirmed, this would be another big win for liberal Left/Dems, BLM and Abe Lincoln Conservatives on the heels of historic pro LGBTQ Civil Rights vote by Trump SCOTUS pick.

WASHINGTON Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson on Thursday said he supports the idea of commemorating the end of slavery and has been a part of White House conversations about a federal holiday marking “Juneteenth.”
“It’s a topic worthy of consideration and discussion,” Carson, in an interview with McClatchy on the eve of the June 19 celebration of the cessation of slavery. “I think just recognizing that this country sort of came of age, and recognize that an abominable practice came to an end, is certainly worthy of all of our recognition.”

I do not see an issue with this. You can argue against all Federal Holidays but since we have them I’d support this and turn it into a Pro Freedom Extravaganza. No reason to oppose liberation.

Doubt anyone from any political camp would see an issue with this. Would be a pro-equality development and should go beyond just symbolism. Currently in symbolims, street naming, allocating holidays etc there has been historic progress made already but beyond such overtures there are still various forms of less overt slaveries around us, poltical slavery is probably one of the more rampant and damaging servitudes around.

So far no White House press release, maybe Trump wins 2020, this holiday discussion may get revisited. Politically, it could further boost his Abe Lincolnesque image that's been building overtime.
In the meantime, to give credit where due:

'I made Juneteenth very famous': Trump takes credit for holiday celebrating Emancipation Proclamation

Updated 7:46 a.m. ET June 19, 2020

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump took credit for widespread recognition of Juneteenth, which commemorates the Emancipation Proclamation, after drawing backlash for his Tulsa, Oklahoma, rally originally scheduled for the same date.
In a wide-ranging interview with the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Trump claimed that "nobody had ever heard of" the June 19 holiday before the controversy surrounding his rally, which he later moved to June 20.
"I did something good: I made Juneteenth very famous,” Trump said. “It’s actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it.”
What is Juneteenth?: Holiday marking Emancipation Proclamation takes on extra importance in 2020
June 19 is the holiday commemorating the date in 1865 when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger traveled to Galveston, Texas, to inform residents that President Abraham Lincoln had freed enslaved people in rebel states more than two years earlier and that enslavers had to comply with the Emancipation Proclamation.
Steve Williams, president of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, told USA TODAY the first known Juneteenth celebrations began in 1866 and spread across the country as African Americans migrated to new cities.
Trump's initial rally date and location drew condemnation as an insensitive gesture in the wake of weeks of nationwide protests against police brutality and racism in America after the death of George Floyd, who was pinned by the neck by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for nearly nine minutes. Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.
Many pointed out that Tulsa is also the site of one of the worst massacres of Black Americans in the country's history, which took place in 1921. Trump's campaign rally in Tulsa will be his first big event in months since lockdowns over the coronavirus began.

...LGBTQ civil rights,...

Groups don't have rights. Individuals have rights. There is no such thing as gay rights, women's rights, men's rights, etc. You have rights by virtue of being born. Getting a marriage license or government money means you have been co-opted into privilege.

If you qualify the noun "right" with an adjective like "gay," then you're saying it's not a right for everyone. You're then specifying a right for one particular group, as in only gays have these rights. If you're claiming equality, then your adjective qualifier would be "human." As in, human rights.

...diversity is our strength.....

Sameness is an equal strength. Yes, various points of views are advantageous, but people must all be on the same page for things to work.

The last slaves weren't freed until nearly a year later on June 14th 1866 by treaty with Creek Nation.
