LA Times: Barr doesn't have Paul's Fundraising Prowess

Ron Paul he is not.

We're talking about Bob Barr, who won -- if that's the word for it -- the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination.

He's following inRepublican representative and presidential candidate Ron Paul's campaign blimp the renegade footsteps of Rep. Paul of Texas, the onetime Libertarian and now disaffected Republican congressman who ran such a successful fundraising campaign this political season, raising nearly $35 million

According to The Times' Dan Morain, our chief campaign finance guru, Barr, a former GOP congressman from Georgia, reported raising a lousy $196,400 last month to give him a grand campaign-long total of $384,864.

Last month he reported spending $180,770, pushing his total outlays to $312,483. Let's see, that leaves him $72,381 to carry him through to election day Nov. 4, unless he raises some more money.

Paul, who ran as a determined small-government, antiwar Republican and came up something around 1,000 delegates short of the nomination, reported ending July with only 649,625.70 in the bank. Last we heard he had several million left over from his unsuccessful presidential run.

But Paul has since transferred $10,000 to his nonprofit organization and a hefty $3.5 million of that money into his congressional campaign, which might seem unnecessary to some because he has no Democratic (or Libertarian) opponent in the November general election for his 11th House term.

In one sense, Barr may be taking a page from Paul. He ended the month with a tiny $1,000 in debt. Paul ended his campaign with zero debt, as the fiscal conservative has consistently done in every reporting month.

Maybe Barr just needs his own campaign blimp.

^Captain Obvious? :D

Anyway, I thought that money was going to the Campaign for Liberty. Or did he have to move it to his congressional campaign fund as he suspended his presidential campaign? Maybe the "Campaign for Liberty" doesn't exist yet, so he couldn't move the money there.

Or maybe Dr. Paul's a bit stingy.

Actually, they're referring to Bullsmen.

They are those who believe in the Storm Bull.

"A great being exists who saved the world from chaos when he killed Wakboth, greatest of all the chaos entities.

His worship is different from the standards, as is common with deities that have the Disorder Rune.
He is worshipped in both Orlanthi theistic religion with sacrifice and in the Praxian Tradition with ecstatic shamanism. In ceremonies among the Orlanthi he is called Urox, while the Praxians call him Storm Bull, or "Oo Ar" in Praxian (his actual name is a bellowing sound.) In ordinary conversation and storytelling either term is commonly used, depending on the narrative rather than being restricted due to the magical requirements of worship. (In fact, in normal narrative a variety of epithets are regularly used, such as Lon One, Gritty One, Blasting Wind and so on. For simplicity Hero Wars usage is intentionally limited for clarity.)
Worshippers are often dedicated to one of these methods, either theistic or shamanic. To reach their god's holy place in worship each uses their own methods, so that the theists sacrifice cattle and burn a portion, while the shamanic practitioners drink fermented bull piss and dance to the beat of clacking bones.
Although these methods differ, they both take the worshippers to the same sacred place of their god: the Eternal Battle. It is the landmark for the berserker shamans in the Spirit Plane, and it is the inner temple for the berserkers on the God World. The Eternal Battle is at the End of the World, a moment when normal reality was broken up because chaos was so preponderant in the make up of Glorantha. Its nature was predominant then, and it still is in the Eternal Battle.
Both methods of worship take worshippers there, and it is no surprise that a method of common worship exists for when members of both religions are together. The worshippers themselves do not participate in each others' religious worship, so no Uroxi drink the Bull's Broth and no Storm Bull dancers munch raw flesh. But when their Otherworld appears around them they are together at the Eternal Battle."

RP didn't have any fund raising prowess, either - the money all came from the grassroots organizers. Then he quit, and a lot of people just felt like the movement died with that. I don't see many RP supporters rushing to max out for Barr.

You know how they say the first $500,000 is always the hardest? Well, the Barr campaign just passed that milestone, and it's still July. There's no doubt it will reach 7-figures and become the highest-funded campaign in LP's history, and that's in spite of many donors being tapped out for Ron Paul. (I've donated to Paul because I thought he would help the libertarian movement outside the two big socialist parties.) Anywayz, BarrBomb.com is now scheduled for August 5th.

People are tapped out and the economy is much worse than it was when we were fundraising for Ron Paul. Things change. The movement is split. I consider the revolution is in chaos..which makes the "powers" giddy with excitement. Too bad. Tones (they call it "creative destruction")

Well, Ron Paul only raised like $600,000 in the first quarter, so Barr's not doing too bad.

But there aren't many "quarters" left for fundraising, so let's hope he does better than Ron's second and third quarters.

Paul doesn't even have Paul's fundraising prowess.

That's a good line.

Andrew Malcolm is a hack - he's been purposely instigating Ron Paul supporters to raise his page views because he knows of RP's online presence and he knows he (himself) is washed up.

that's true, Barr does not have a full year like Ron did before "exploding"

Yeah, I hope the Libertarian Party changes its rules so they select their nominee a year before the election, like May, 2007, instead of May, 2008. More time to get their name out, get on the ballot, and get money. Of course, they would have been competing with Ron Paul for attention, and the Revolution might have hard a rockier start.

Please do not compare Ron Paul's fund raising to Bob Barr's fund raising. There is no comparison. TIA.
and another thing,
I pull out the vamps when I see Bob Barr compared to RON PAUL. it makes me SICK, as there is no comparison.
HOPEFULLY,
THAT-
we can all agree on.
