John McCain on WELFARE!!!!!

This is completely constitutional. The taxes for matching funds is voluntarily given when you mark a check box on your tax forms stating you wish to give money towards it.

The point is his message isn't strong enough to survive on its own, whilst Ron Paul's is.

Besides, even if you had a government run program run by user fees - it is STILL SOCIALISM......US Post Office, etc, etc, etc,....

From the Article said:
The matching fund program provides up to $250 in taxpayer money for each donation from an individual, with the maximum amount a candidate could receive currently estimated to be about $21 million.

But it’s seen as a trade-off, since it also caps at about $50 million the amount of cash campaigns can spend during the primary.

Wow. Paul would possibly qualify for up to $30M in matching funds this quarter alone. It's capped at $21M, but the limit on spending is $50M for the primaries which wouldn't phase Dr. Paul. I don't think he would ever do this, but I really almost couldn't blame him if he did. Of course not taking it shows how strong the campaign is as well as how strong his personal integrity is. Again though... wow.

Yes, we all need to e-mail Ron Paul and urge him to take the matching funds, 20 extra milion will help tremendously.

He already announced that he's not taking the funds. I'm not going to email him to ask him to go against his principles. You can, but I personally wouldn't do that.

If he took the funds, it would be a repudiation of everything he believes, and I for one would no longer support him. Just because a thief lets you decide how he spends your money, it's no less a theft.

The thing is, it doesn't go against his principles. As an earlier poster pointed out, the money is voluntary, not stolen from taxpayers are Dr. Paul seems to think.

The $3 checkoff does not affect the taxpayer's personal tax liability. In other words, it is not the taxpayer's own money that is being volunteered.

But those funds are ill begotten being that you don't have a choice to not fill out the return. You also wouldn't get that money back if you checked no. The money is still taken by force. It would be like if robber comes to steal your $5,000 dollar sound system, but gives you the option to donate 2 dollars from the sale proceeds to a charity.

I've stated repeatedly that it is not enough to simply turn down the matching funds. The campaign has to make not accepting them worthwhile. As someone who sent Ron Paul money I am irritated that the campaign has done nothing to use the not taking of the funds a huge issue with which to get votes. Go look up threads on matching funds. I've repeatedly posted multiple ways to handle the situation. Is the campaign not listening? Again?!!!
