Issue 6, the casino, I have a question

So I have always voted yes to casino proposals. Ohio does a fine enough job sending revenues/jobs to other states (their high business taxes, smoking ban, refusing things like the Newport Aquarium).
So I would be happy to vote for a bill that simply removed the casino ban but I think that this bill may be different?
Is it true it only allows this one man to build casino's here and no one else ever?

I don't take the attack ads seriously becuase they are bought and paid for by the casino operators in surrounding states trying to knock off competition.
I would love to see a casino here eventually but am unsure if this bill is the proper way to go about it.

According to the Beacon Journal, it allows one group to build one casino, period. No provision for more casinoes at all by anyone.

I think that is pretty terrible and may remove my vote yes on 6 bumper sticker. Still undecided though and would like to hear more views. Thanks for the link!

I hate issues like this, as it tears me in two.

I wish it were a little more well defined as in "issue 6: fully legalize gambling in Ohio".

I'm for a Casino being built...but ultimately, I'll probably vote against it because it gives a government-sponsored monopoly to ONE entity....and being the Austrian-econ guy I am, I know that's how coercive monopolies are established.

Thank heavens the last 2 didn't make it on the ballot (especially the universal healthcare one).

How I'll probably vote:

1. No (because I don't want the universal healthcare people to have more time xD)
2. No (we don't need to borrow MORE money)
3. Yes (private property rights need to be protected, but I personally think the amendment and the legislation enacted before this amendment is incredibly weak for private property owners.)
5. No (I do not want to cap the interest rate)
6. No (already explained)

Cleveland area here. T^he issue would not help us out here much because W. Virginia is still an easy drive and we won't get one here, but my opinion is that even one casino that does well and provides jobs etc can prove the critics wrong and open the way for more casinos and a removal of the gambling ban.

Even though we won't get one here in Cleveland, I say yes, so atleast some people can spend their money as they please instead of our government telling them they must play church ran bingo or state ran lotto as their only legal form of gambling entertainment.

The horse track here just went out of business because they could not compete with nearby states who allowed slot machines.

Strickland is even cracking down on simple slot machines found in some stores and bars etc....

Is it a perfect bill? no, but it can help pave the way for more casinos. Unless the crime rate shoots up as prostitutes and South American drug dealers flock to the parking lot as we are told will happen, a well run casino could gain ground and tear apart the oppositions arguments.

Legalizing gambling statewide is one thing, and I would vote for that. I'm against 6 because it allows for a government imposed monopoly of the casino, and it's locked into the Ohio Constitution. If it wasn't locked in to the constitution, there may be more room for competition in the future, but that's not the case.
