Realistically speaking... is there any way to get the trillions back that had been made on these CDS's and leveraged bets that have failed that us taxpayers have to back?

Can an "Asset recovery team" be set up to recoup the ill gotten gains? Or are we screwed? Seems like something should be able to be done... but what is realistic and feasible.

What you are asking is: can we recover something that was created out of thin air? :D

i guess what i'm asking is if there is a way to collect the profits pocketed by those who created this mess... go back through the chain of transactions and confiscate funds from those who killed the economy.

i'm not speaking about lost stock value. what i'm speaking about is profits on CDS and the like that we have to bail out. somewhere there is a paper trail and if we follow it we can perhaps get some of that money back..... possibly... maybe.

So what you are asking is if there a way to recover the money stolen by the gov'ment?

No. Most of those profits got whiped away into the abyss. The money the banks have now is pure inflation (aswell, of course).

Once the money has been stolen,

The only way I can see (short of the govt coming in just seizing it) would be to deflate the currency... Then when loans go bad let them eat it (Dont bail them out) The people will regain lost purchasing power lost to these banks (among others)

If "we" can pass one landmark legislation, we can demand another.

Not only COULD we seize the assets of N'er-Do-Wells, we SHOULD...or we can expect more of the same. Society will get more of whatever turns a profit.

Frozen credit, frozen credit...baloney. More like...no confidence, no confidence.

And why WOULD investors have confidence when it is clear that they may be lied to and cheated with impunity?

From every sector involved in the Mortgage Meltdown, heads should roll...real estate, appraisal, loans, insurance, rating agencies, Wall Street Wizards.

One head per billion, that's all we ask.

Why are people letting the banks control the economy?
The entire fraudulent system of fiat currency, combined with a non 100% reserve lending scam has placed all of the power into the hands of the bankers.

I hear on the news, how much the public and corporate entities are reliant on the banks for keeping the economy going, I have to wonder why people allow this sort of thing to happen.

If everybody had hard currency and loans were 100% backed by the banks, none of this would be happening. Banks could fail and it would have zero impact on the economy. The only impact would be on those who had chosen to keep their money in that particular bank.

The procedure for this situation is very simple, and has been used for years.

For those who made bad investments or dealt with shady faudsters, they lose their money.

For those who have committed fraud, they go to jail and may be required to pay restitution.
