I want to have a current example for some friends of mine who don't believe sound money is the answer. Everywhere I look, though, it seems the fiat is all there is. Would the middle east countries count as semi-sound money because of the oil essentially backing it?

Practically every country in the world has a central bank now... Iraq / Afghanistan both got new ones in Dec 03... after the occupation.. ;) Wonder why...

Everybody is linked into Brenton Woods ver 2. it would seem. :(

The only real option is to use a private currency like gold/silver coins or something like GoldMoney.

Yes, every industrialized and civilized country has a central bank, it's called convenience and unity. According to Von NotHaus, there's no country that has official currency backed by metals.

No, it's called the 5th plank of the Communist Manifesto. And a means to control [regulate] the countries entire money supply, and thus it's citizens.

Practically every non industrialized & non civilized country has one too.

there's a difference between having a central bank and having a central bank that forces everybody to participate. having consolidated banking has its benefits, but of course I know the benefits work towards the controllers as well.

Well I guess the only country that sort of has a form of sound money is South Africa.

Not their regular currency though; I'm talking about Krugerrands.

Krugerrand coins have no face value, they are legal tender at the market value of their gold content.
