Perhaps unsurprisingly, Texas Congressman Ron Paul, a libertarian in the truest sense of the word, did not receive a single vote in the poll. The lone anti-war voice on the GOP stage, Paul would be unlikely to earn support, or even notice, of people involved in Republican circles enough to be an elected board member.

"We're putting an investment of staff and an investment of time there," said Jesse Benton, spokesman for Ron Paul.

This is probably a good article. It gives Ron little chance to win anything. He should be able to beat these expectations pretty easily. Any type of a showing can be categorized as a big win.

The poll was "an informal survey of Iowa Republican Party leaders". So I wouldn't expect many votes for Paul. Many of the Republican leaders in Iowa are on Romney's "consulting" payroll.

I doubt this poll should hold much water. It put Tancredo at #2!?! Thats quite a switch from the usual biased media polls such as the Washington Post poll quoted before the debate that put Tancredo much much lower.

Well, until now, Dr. Paul has not had much of a presence in the state. I hope he spends all the time from now until the straw poll, in Iowa, campaigning like heck.

It's fascinating to watch the enemies of the American people emerge more and more clearly into view as the crisis point approaches.

how many mormons are in Iowa???

most folks don't know that Joseph Smith made alot of prophecies....most of which never came true....one was that the people of the Moon were six feet tall and wore quaker style clothes!! The truth shall set you free.

I heard Friday that Giuliani is in fact out campaigning in Iowa, though not officially participating in the Ames Straw Poll.

This morning on Fox News, Steve Forbes (Sr. Adviser to Giuliani) noted that if 2nd tier candidates could not outperform Giuliani who's not participating in the Straw Poll, that it would show a lot of weakness in their campaigns.

So...he's out there campaigning like crazy to drum up a bunch of support at Ames, and then by not showing up and doing well by quietly pumping lots of campaign dough into the state, he's going to blast the 2nd tier guys. What a crock of sh*t if you ask me.

Do they have an actual source for this? Real clear politics is VERY anti-paul. It just looks like this article was written by a RCP guy... without any actual source cited.

He was in Iowa for the debate. A few campaign stops would make sense. Dr. Paul and the rest are doing the same.
