Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums and also new to getting involved in political matters other then voting each year. To make a long story short I like Dr. Paul's message and while my main concern has been the imprisonment of non-violent drug offenders over the years as I prefer less costly and more effective treatment options. However Dr. Paul and his supporters have sparked my interest in the Federal Reserve and our nations monetary policy and over the past week I have been trying to get people on the forums I frequent to discuss this policy, mostly for my own education on the matter.
I have found that virtually no one understands how the Federal Reserve system works, including myself and would even say that most were surprised at the little information I was able to provide. I should mention that the forums I visit are not national but more local forums from various areas of the country. I have been hanging out on those forums for years so was able to bring the topic up without injecting political overtones.
The suggestion I'd like to make is this and there could be different ways to approach this. On Christmas night, when all the stores are closed and most everyone is at home I'd like to see a town hall type of meeting on national televison, not so much as a campaign instrument but as an educational gift to the American people on the Federal Reserve and our monetary system and our national debt.
Invites may include other members of congress, experts and Federal Reserve members past and present and anyone else who could present information in a truthful and simplistic manner for the American people. I would think a live discussion would be the first choice but if such a program could not be put together then infomercial would work. I believe that an honest and straight forward discussion on the causes of our current housing slump and providing Americans with a true and realistic picture of our current national debt and the workings of the Federal Reserve would not only be healthy for this country but would force even more discussion on the issues.
I also have found that many people fear Dr. Pauls ideas because they seem to think that he would actually be able to quickly close down all of those Federal Departments he has mentioned in the debates and this scares people. While I have heard him say in a few videos that he would not throw people out on the streets I think many Americans really think he would and could.
I would suggest Dr. Paul begin to explain the differences to the American people between his philosophy and what he would actually do as President. He has somewhat made this point on one or two video clips I have watched but I do not think the American people fully understand this. I think I heard him say once that he would not do anything the American people/Congress did not agree with and that comes across very well.
However be very careful with the term "transitional period" when speeking about government programs as that phrase sounds like it's going to happen one way or another if Dr. Paul is elected President.
On the other hand the term "transitional period" when speaking about our massive budget deficit sounds good because it conveys a slow return to responsiblity which the American people could embrace.
