Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

I don't trust Firefox too much. For a while they were down loadin stuff without asking for my permission until i finally found out how to stop it

Open your Firefox browser and click on “tools”

Click on “options”

Click on the “update” tab

Under “Automatically check for updates to:”

Deselect the first box beside “Firefox.” This will dim and disable the two update options: “Ask me what I want to do” and “Automatically download and install the update.”

Then Press OK

Thanks G! Does this mess with security in anyway?

No it does not change much except instead of asking for 1 thing at a time it now asks for 30 and broadband can handle it.

The add on "Faster Firefox" may be just auto setting this up for you? I would do it by hand that way you know what has been done..

It really does speed things up..........

wow. now how do i do this for safari?

i just got a mac.

oh yea, and how do i run ubuntu on this thing?
