Do you have to get tickets through Ticketmaster?

ticketmoster

You can always go directly to the Target Center Box Office, where I'm pretty sure they won't charge you the ticketmaster fees. Also, tickets can be purchased by phone through the box office, where I'm unsure as to whether there are fees involved. The number is 651.989.5151

When you call the number it says "Thank you for calling ticketmaster..." so going to the box office is the only way around ticketmoster's "Convenience Charge" of $5.95, "Order Processing Fee" of $5.48 (was for me) and "Additional Taxes" (???) of $2.25.

I seriously had to hold my nose when ordering-- I've successfully avoided ticketmoster for over 5 years because of their rates. (They'll clear over $100,000 for selling 13,000 tickets.)

I was ordering my tickets and aborted when I saw the Ticketmaster rip off charges.

Will we be able to buy tickets at the box office the day of the event?

I don't care if I get "nosebleed" seats, its better than paying the evil bastards at Ticketmaster!

Depends on if it sells out. Today they sold nearly half of the 13,000 available tickets. Also, they said more could be come available if all 13,000 sell.

It also depends on who the "internationally renowned musicians" are. If the two musicians are really famous, their fans might snatch up some of the tickets. I guarantee this is why they waited to announce these musicians, the CFL wanted to make sure the true CFL supporters got the best tickets and that they got them first.

I'm not sure about the box office, but I think there will be some available on the street. I have went to many, many events without a ticket where i bought one on the street. Some of these events were much, much tougher of a ticket than this. Also, this is a unique event where many are planning on traveling a long distance to come. Some that bought tickets just aren't going to be able to make it for various reasons. Of course, this also depends on who the musicians are, as 17.76 is a rather cheap show for, "internationally renowned musicians"

I think they get the money no matter what.

Ticketmaster has an exclusive contract with the Target Center and almost every venue on earth. There isn't much choice.

I'm 90% sure Ticketmaster doesn't see a dime if the tickets are bought at the physical box office. I remember going to a concert last year and I bought tickets at the door paying the regular ticket price with no convenience charge. The venue was a ticketmaster venue. Also, it isn't very convenient to go to the box office to buy tickets, hence, no convenience charge.

Like I said, I'm 90% sure on this, so it's no guarantee that it's correct, but I really think it is.

Edit, I'm now 99% sure this is correct, as this article makes it pretty clear you can avoid convenience charges by driving to the venue box office

Edit #2: From ticketmaster faq

There is typically no convenience charge when you drive to a box office to purchase tickets

With the basic ticket rate @ $17.76 to the singularly most important "political event this century, you're bitching about a $5.85 "processing fee?" I've heard of "Cheep" but brother, you take the cake! And by the way, there are 18,000 tickets of wich 6072 were sold as of two hours ago. For those that are not "mathmatically enclinded" that is 33.7% sold so far. The remained will sell out buy the end of the month, if not this weekend. There is no "other" larger venue that we can get. The "overflow" crowed will have to "handled" by large outside relay screens. If you don't get your tickets, you will literally be left outside. Hope it don't rain.

Yes you can wait until the night of the convention and buy them from me at the front door although by that time ticketmasters exorbitant prices will look like pennies.:D

Thanks everyone. I bit the Ticketmaster bullet and ordered them online. Bastards.

My first experience with Ticketmaster was forever ago, and I was first in line after camping out for AC/DC tickets. After a line of a few hundred people formed, were were told Ticketmaster wanted them to do a lottery, so everyone was given a number and had to form a new line. I was past #100 in line. Total B.S. Hated them and their overpricing ever since. (friend got me 4th row seats, so all was good, though).

Its got nothing to do with the cost or being "cheap," I just don't like getting ripped off by Ticketmaster. I'd gladly pay $50 or $100 if the money was going to the CFL, but I'm NOT INTERESTED in fattening up Ticketmaster's bottom line!

BTW, Ticketmaster is making close to $12 off every ticket, not $5.85. They hit you up for $5.85 up front, then hit you up for another $5+ before you complete the transaction.

So, if tickets will be available the day of the event, I'll wait and buy them there, even if it means getting a crappy seat or even no seat at all.

Screw the thieves at Ticketmaster!

Are you kidding me?! I would probably have had a meltdown and steamrolled security.

Welcome to the forums...

It's cheap, not cheep - that's the sound a bird makes. :p

This has nothing to do with cheap. It has to do with me not liking Ticketmaster and the stranglehold they have on the process of ticket sales across the country and the business practices they have. Their fees are much too high for what they are offering. I'm not rich by any means, but I would have bought our two tickets for $100 or more as a donation. My gripe is not the cost to attend the "most important political event in history", but rather with Ticketmaster themselves.

If this had to do with being "cheap", I would have complained about the ticket price the Campaign for Liberty is charging, not asking in my thread title how to avoid Ticketmaster.

I won't be out in the rain, I'll be in Section 138. :)
