Demon Marijuana

Jack Herer, Emperor of Hemp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_63dJYiU10

Grown worldwide for millenia as a source of food, medicine, fiber and paper, hemp was banned for the first time in human history in 1938 by the United States.

The original impetus for outlawing the hemp plant came from the DuPont and Mellon families with an important assist from William Randolf Hearst.

Hearst owned timber rights for millions of acres of forest land, the raw material for newsprint. DuPont had patents for numerous synthetic products that hemp is competitive with.

Harry Anslinger, the virulent racist who headed the Bureau of Narcotics and spear-headed the campaign against "demon marijuana" was married to the niece of Richard Mellon of the Mellon banking family.

For those who believe that the world is run by and for the benefit of a few interlocking families, this episode provides evidence for that position.

Enforcing marijuana laws and jailing offenders is a multi-billion dollar a year business that employs tens of thousands of people.

Hemp may soon be joined by hundreds of other plants.

Prong One: Semantic Deception, covered by George Orwell in 1984, calls for lying through the deceitful use of words. Few Americans question the innocent-sounding words/phrases such as “regionalism,” “consolidation,” “democracy” “free trade,” “public/private partnerships,” “school choice,” “base closures” “faith-based,” “freedom,” “patriot,” “security,” “prosperity,” “peace” et al...

:(
Are you still free, can you be?

Kind of related but kind of not related -

Recently, it struck me that the banning of safe drugs like marijuana have forced users to move onto more dangerous legal drugs like shrooms, DXM, datura, etc. People have also been forced to upgrade to more potent marijuana. A major problem today is that you are never sure how potent your marijuana will be (which anyone acquainted with the drug world knows doesn't happen in the free market - there's a reason why you can buy 5x, 10x, 25x of dagga, salvia, etc.).

Both of these, besides the negative criminal effects of prohibition, are major reasons why marijuana should be legalized.

+1 bud

I read The Emperor Wear No Clothes by Jack Herer back in '93 and it gave me a whole new outlook on government and how politicians and corporations really do conspire together. http://www.amazon.com/Hemp-Marijuana-Conspiracy-Authoritative-Prohibition/dp/1878125001

Currently, the hemp is ten feet tall in the Iowa ditches all across the state. It's an inspiring sight to see. It grows everywhere in farm fence rows along major highways and gravel roads, the offspring of plants that were grown for the war effort back in 1942. I had always heard when I was a kid that it was "ditchweed" (the secret name for it so we didn't know what it was). People said it was "thrown out by railroad workers". It was purposefully lost to history that those seeds are proof of hemp's value as a crop, that it was grown safely and patriotically by American farmers during the war, and the government's knowing arrogance for not allowing it to be a crop again in the U.S., as it was for hundreds of years.

Check out Hemp for Victory if you haven't seen it before.

The mere facts that hemp is so prolific throughout this state, causes no harm to society, is ignored completely by law enforcement with no attempts at all to erradicate it, are proof that hemp could be grown in this country with little or no issues.

What are you talking about? I would much rather smoke 2 bowls of super dank for 50 bucks an 1/8 vs a half of shwag for the same price. It tastes better, there are no seeds, and the high is more enjoyable, lasting longer and it doesn't make you sleepy. Also with dank the better it is (more potent) the more it costs you but then you smoke accordingly. Like I pointed out with the 1/8 dank vs half of shwag, at the same price they last me the same amount of time, about a week. With the dank you smoke much less plant matter so it is not as bad for you as smoking a shitload of shwag.

As for shrooms, even if you live in the shroom capital of the world like I do those are not things you do all the time. That isn't an upgrade from pot, that is an experience that you enjoy occasionally while smoking pot, vs pot which you can enjoy daily.

+1 and +1

Stronger Cannabis = Safer and healthier

You don't smoke nearly as much when you have good stuff, and that is something that your lungs will thank you for.

And ya.. shrooms are not 'hard' or addictive, but I would say that a lot of people smoke meth because it is damn cheap and that is one of the worst substances you can be addicted to.

A mushroom study a few years back that failed to have any effects on repealing the silly laws against using them. http://www.jointogether.org/news/research/summaries/2006/mushroom-study-shows-some.html

Mushroom Study Shows Some Positive Effects of Hallucinogens

A group of well-educated middle-aged test subjects reported mostly positive changes in attitudes and behavior after consuming controlled doses of psilocybin, the hallucinogenic compounds found in "magic" mushrooms, the Wall Street Journal reported July 11.

Johns Hopkins researchers said that the drug generated feelings of joy, peace and harmony -- as well as distance from reality -- among the 36 participants, two-thirds of whom called the experience one of the top five in their lives. Positive effects lasted up to two months.

On the other hand, 30 percent of the 36 volunteers experienced darker "trips" full of fear and paranoia. Trained monitors helped the test subjects through these experiences, but noted that such episodes could be dangerous in a less-controlled environment.

Psilocybin mushrooms have been used in many cultures as part of religious ceremonies, and former National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) head Charles Schuster said the research "renews interest in a fascinating and potentially useful class of psychotropic agents." NIDA cosponsored the study but also warned against the dangers of eating psilocybin mushrooms, noting the potential for psychosis, paranoia, and anxiety.

Roland Griffiths, who headed the research team, also warned against interpreting the results as a green light for consuming the mushrooms. "We don't know all their dark sides," he said. "I wouldn't in any way want to underestimate the potential risks."

The study was one of the first conducted on hallucinogenic mushrooms since the early 1960s.

The findings were published in the journal Psychopharmacology.

Same is true about tobacco. However, I'm sure there will still be a market for light cannabis as there is for light tobacco.

In a free market, you would know the % of THC in each dose, just like you can know how much nicotine is in each cigarette for a particular brand or blend.

I can tell by the appearence and smell how potent marijuana is and I can even tell you what part of the world its main genetics originated from. :p

Cannabis Connoisseur :D

Just found Jack Herer's book reprinted (most of it) on his website, available for free:

http://www.jackherer.com/chapters.html

The only things missing from his online version are the reprints and some original source material. Supremely interesting book.

Also read where some folks are hoping Obama lifts the ban on industrial hemp cultivation.

He's backtracked on most of his positions already before he's even taken office, so I hope those folks aren't holding their breath.

I remember voting for Clinton the first time around, because he came across as one who might actually decriminalize the plant. Instead, he escalated the Drug War, and called for a $10 Billion plan to build more prisions and put 100,000 more cops on the streets.

I believe government force should be used to keep us all safe from reefer madness.

this is what I cant understand:

if you ate McDonalds 3 times a day for months straight whats gonna happen compared to if you smoked cannabis the same amount???

wtf is that? if you ate McDonalds that much you would be in terrible health.. you could die potentially..

Perhaps Morgan Spurlock should do a new documentary, a sequel to "Supersize Me" entitled "Herbisize Me"!
