Several people have been waiting for this information. We now have enough information to start working with how to begin the process of becoming a delegate to the Republican National Convention.
The Delegates are chosen both At-Large and by Congressional Districts. There are 18 congressional districts in Ohio, there will be 3 chosen in each district. Furthermore, the delegates are chosen based on gender to achieve a 50/50 split.
Ohio will send 88 delegates to the convention. 34 delegates at large and 54 congressional district delegates. There are alternates for all these positions also.
All people considering being delegates need to meet the following requirements:
Registered Republican- this can be determined by how you voted in the 2006 primary for the governor's race. If you requested a Republican ballot, you are a Republican right now
You can pay all your own expenses for the convention: Airfare or driving expense, 4-6 days in a hotel of your choice, your food expenses and all other costs associated with the trip.
You can get the time off of work: the convention is September 1-4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
********************All delegates are placed on a petition to be circulated for signatures. We do not have the petitions yet. The Ron Paul campaign coordinator was just named for the State of Ohio. He is gathering all the information necessary for the petitions and he will be coordinating this in the next two weeks.*************************************
We also need circulators for the petitions. The requirement is being a registered Republican If you voted in the 2006 governor's primary as a DEMOCRAT, you cannot participate in this.
We will need 100 signatures per congressional district. We will also need 1000 signatures for the at large delegates statewide.
Who can sign the petition? Registered Republicans and Independent voters.
We will have lists of each neighborhood and the names and addresses of all registered Republican voters. We will be going door to door for the signatures-we will NOT be standing in front of a mall, park or any other place. We will be going to specific houses to specific people.
