I JUST READ THIS ABOUT THE WISE CHINESE PHILOSOPHER CONFUCIOUS....

Confucius had a simple moral and POLTICAL teaching: to love others; to do what is right instead of what is of advantage; to practice "reciprocity," i.e. "don't do to others what you would not want yourself"; to rule by MORAL EXAMPLE instead of by FORCE AND VIOLENCE. Confucius thought that a ruler who had to resort to force had already failed as a ruler. "Your job is to govern, not to kill"

I heard when he was young, Confucious went to a village which had been plagued by a terrible man-eating tiger. When he got there, he found an old woman living alone. He asked her why she was there: "Aren't you afraid of the tiger?" Her response: "If I leave my village, I may be forced to live somewhere with a more oppresive government. And that is far more dangerous than any tiger."
