NV Delegates Finding Their Seats in St. Paul

Brock Lorber
Date: 8-27-2008
Subject: Politics: Republican Campaigns

At least four Ron Paul Republicans in Nevada have been successfully seated at the Republican National Convention. Nevada GOP activist Mike Weber spent 6 hours testifying to a 10-person contest committee on Sunday, Aug 24, appealing the recommendation of a previous RNC panel that neither of the two slates of NV delegates be seated at next week's convention.

After the April 26 state convention was abruptly aborted, GOP delegates resumed the convention in June while the Nevada Republican Party appointed a second slate of delegates outside of the convention in July. At issue are 31 seats at the Republican National Convention; the Aug 15 panel recommended seating the 3 automatic seats from Nevada.

Ummm.... so if we get 4 does McCain get the rest? If thats the case I rather NV be skipped and not allowed to vote.

I am guessing the 4 are the delegates that were actually voted on, approved, and then sealed when the convention went in "recess".

From what I understand, yes, those would be some of the Congressional delegates(CD). Understand, THEY are not GIVING us anything. THEY could not come up with a way to successfully deny these delegates, as hard as THEY try.
The one district that had not finished counting, I am told we would also have had one out of the three there, they threw out.

So basically they are seating the delegates that were already accepted before the convention shut down? so does McCain get any?

Sealed votes.

I wonder if the committee requested and was given the sealed votes. If that is the case, they should have acknowledged all those delegates with the most votes.

at the RNC do the delegates votes count 1 for 1 or do the 7 they approved get to vote for 31?

Wouldn't it be nice if they seated the delegates voted for, the 3 fixed delegates, and then no one else? Recognizing that the only valid thing that occurred to select delegates was the CD elections?

1 for 1

RULE NO. 29
Voting

(a) Each delegate to the convention shall be entitled to one (1) vote, which may be cast by an alternate delegate in the absence of the delegate, and an individual holding more than one (1) of the following positions: national committeeman; national committeewoman; or state chairman of any state, shall not be entitled to more than one (1) delegate seat and shall not be entitled to more than one (1) vote.

(b) In the absence of any delegate at large or any delegate from any congressional district, the roll of alternate delegates for the state or district shall be called in the order in which the names are placed upon the roll of the convention, unless the law governing the state or district electing the absent delegate, the state or district convention, or the Republican state committee or governing committee shall otherwise provide, or the delegation shall otherwise direct at the time of certification, in which event the alternate delegates from the state or district shall vote in the order established pursuant to the foregoing, as set forth in the delegation's certification. The form of certificate provided by the Republican National Committee shall provide a means by which an order for voting by alternate delegates may be specified.

Isn't the 4 about what Ron Paul could have gotten when Romney won if he had stayed in the race? Remember McCain was third in this state on the Republican ticket and I still can't see that he is very popular except with the "inner circle." So far, it looks like all the work done to reconvene and elect NV's full quota of delegates, in parlimentarian fashion, is being ignored. I hope this isn't over yet.
