Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form.

Well, fine then. Let's get rid of that question on the questionnaire; and any laws pertaining to it.

Zero chance of that happening.

And what about Trump's charges in New York? Who else, other than Trump and those associated with him, has been prosecuted for those? Would anyone not named Donald Trump have been prosecuted for it? Doesn't that make it a politically-motivated prosecution?

It's a good thing that Hunter was the one, singular case where a person was targeted by the federal government for political prosecution.

Thanks for pointing that out for us and restoring faith in the federal agencies, Brandon.

My brother recently compelled me to watch this retrospective of Firefly because the presenter makes a damned good point.
Of course we didn't get the conclusion that the show deserved (after about 10 seasons) but the primary reason it doesn't work today is because 20 years ago the writers were operating from a headspace where governments still had some sense of shame. They wrote stories with the understanding that the state had to keep up appearances and would go to pretty great lengths to cover up the fact that it had done horrible things.

"Collateral Murder" was released 14 years ago. Nobody cared. The only response was to try to identify who leaked it and punish him.

Before that, our tax dollars were literally paying for boy rape parties in Afghanistan. Still nobody cares.

Trump already had every reason anyone ever needed to declare that he was going to be dismantling the FBI and returning all of its constitutional responsibilities to the entities that handled them prior to 1908. But we're not getting that - we're getting replacement, and continuation.

Biden signed the pardon now because he doesn't give a shit because nobody else gives a shit. We're in Frank Zappa's late stage illusion of freedom and all people want is for some of the scenery to go back on stage. Nobody wants actual change. They just want the illusion back. Including you. Because who cares, really, if it's now or on January 19th? The only reason to care is because you know the main problem with doing it now is that the illusion of freedom is further shattered, and that's what matters the most to everyone. We all assume it's going to happen. We just don't want to know.

This is essentially what the whole Summer of Love was about. Everyone knows cops choke out, beat down, and straight up murder black men who were doing nothing wrong but being high. Rodney King was a whole lifetime ago at this point and it's been happening regularly ever since. No matter how many times they say it's about George, it was never about George. It was about the fact that he knelt on his neck for 9 minutes and everyone was powerless to stop it. It was the most naked expression of how controlled we all are, and when the lines got drawn, it was all the people who are 100% comfortable with that on one side, and everyone who is pissed off about that on the other. The illusion of freedom was shattered.

He didn't wait until January 19th because we are at a stage in US history where he didn't have to and is totally comfortable sending the message of fuck you for even thinking about that.

Interesting twist for the incoming AG...

Hunter Biden would have to answer questions about his business interests if called before Congress, a criminal defense lawyer has said.

Kevin Adams said that President Joe Biden's decision to pardon his son now clears the way for Congress to call Hunter as a witness. Newsweek sought email comment from Hunter Biden's attorney on Monday...

...Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan strongly suggested on X, formerly Twitter, that Hunter may be called to give evidence as Republicans consider whether to impeach President Biden for his business interests with his son. "Democrats said there was nothing to our impeachment inquiry. If that's the case, why did Joe Biden just issue Hunter Biden a pardon for the very things we were inquiring about?" Jordan wrote on Sunday.

Adams wrote on X that Hunter can no longer refuse to answer questions before Congress.

That is because the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects people from having to answer questions before Congress if it could help a prosecution case against them or compel them to make self-incriminating statements.

With Hunter now free from all his criminal cases, he cannot use the Fifth Amendment to refuse to answer questions.

"The upside to Joe Biden's pardon is that Hunter Biden no longer enjoys the right to assert his 5th Amendment Right against self incrimination and contempt of Congress is also a crime," Adams wrote.
