I have approximately an acre of land to work with it southeast Alaska and I'm thinking about growing some carrots, potatoes and possibly a couple other high output plants if I can find anything else that grows well in a cool wet climate. Do any of you grow your own foods? What do you grow and do you have any tips for us neophytes?

brussle sprouts, cabbage, brocolli, peas, turnips, lettuce, carrots and many more that would thrive in colder climates.

Habanero Peppers, Jalapeno Peppers, Scotch Bonnet peppers, Naga Jolokia peppers, Tabasco peppers, Thai peppers, Indian Green Chilis, so on and so forth.

The East Coast doesn't know anything about how to make food spicy, and I have acquired a taste for Indian food.

A man has to take matters into his own hands.

I own 20+ chickens, at least 16 are laying at any given time. I also have bananas avacados pidgeon peas and tomatoes growing. I'm fortunate to have inherited a wonderful plot of land, unfortunately working my land takes me away to one of the most obscure parts of the US. Puerto Rico.

we HAVE to grow our own (under duress now), unless the aerial spraying n california is stopped, as the spray contains carcinogenic chemicals, endocrine disruptors, and untested chemicals encased in microparticulate plastic that could penetrate skin, and definately the lungs.
odd that they are planning to poison the food crops, since they are pretending to be defending them against a moth shown to do no harm, but which they have classified as an emergency. that allows them to use untested chemicals, so they are in a hurry. there are interesting cnnections concerning this too.

i wish to have a few hens for eggs. years ago i had rhode island reds and a bantam. what kind are the best layers? are there personality traits in breeds? i want calm ones that do not have a desire to roam.

I am not sure peppers would do well in Alaska or tomatoes. They may with the long days.
You must have a strong stomach ? Wow

its the truth, Indian Food is the the most flavorful food in existence..

i could go for some green curry right now.. "drools"

curry and peppers are both very healthful. i have neither today, but i'm getting some.
meanwhile, tumeric as an herb is good for several things. inflamation for one. there is a mouthwash with cayenne in it called peri-gum. i like it.

anyone growing that?
i grow blueberries, that is probably easier.

Injun food is my favorite. I dig tandoori chicken so much. There is a great place in Baltimore called The Ambassador (it's part of a hotel) that has the best Indian food I've ever had. Beautiful decor too.

One of the things I miss about a bigger city. Sigh.

India Palace may just be the best restaurant in this town, though there is an excellent Lebanese place as well. I'm getting halfway good at making a curried yoghurt sauce for my chicken. Talk about making coworkers hungry...

My girlfriend was born in Bombay, so I have developed a real taste for authentic Indian food. She spoils me.

Lucky bastard. My best friend is Indian, and when he invited me over for dinner I was all psyched. Got there and. . . .he made cheeseburgers.

He said 'Brooks (nickname), I'm a guy, we grill and Hindu moms don't teach their boys to cook. I ended up cooking him Indian food when he got homesick.

Oh well.
