Nice that they have "sealed" the case file -- can't have the peasants knowing what's going on ...

Commerce City Officer Kevin Lord bails out of jail after accusations he faked shooting

7:22 PM, Nov 14, 2015

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Officer Kevin Lord is out of jail after accusations he lied about being shot during a traffic stop.

According to an employee at the Adam's County Jail, Lord was booked in just after 11:30 p.m. Friday and posted $5,000 bond at 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

On Friday evening, investigators announced that Lord had not been truthful about claims that a man shot him Sunday morning.

"I share with you there is no armed gunman on the loose tonight, and there are no officers in danger," said Commerce City Police Chief Troy Smith at the press conference.

Lord's neighbor said he was shocked by the arrest.

"I wonder what's going to happen to him now?" asked Raymond Medina Ornelas. "It’s a shame. Somebody's life is ruined."

Ornelas took photos Sunday as Lord got a hero's welcome returning home from the hospital. A few dozen police officers, firefighters and EMTs gathered in front of his home.

"We got pictures of the standing ovation they gave him. We took enchiladas over there for him," Ornelas said. "They're nice people. We're sorry to see it end like this."

Ornelas said Lord was limping and appeared hurt when he dropped off the enchiladas. Investigators won't say if Lord was actually injured by an intentional or accidental shooting or anything about a motive.

"We are not, at this time, going to be giving you details on that investigation," said Adams County District Attorney Dave Young. "As a matter of fact, the case has been sealed."

Federal, State And Local Law Enforcement Agencies Contribute Funds - COMMERCE CITY, COLO. – (Nov. 12, 2015) – Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies announced today the availability of a cash reward up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect involved in the shooting of Commerce City Police Officer Kevin Lord.

Lord, an eight-year veteran of the department, sustained non-life-threatening injuries on Sunday, Nov. 8, when he was shot during a proactive patrol. The Commerce City Police Department has an active investigation underway with the support of numerous law enforcement agencies to find the suspect, whom remains at-large.
“This incomprehensible act of violence directed at a police officer who dedicated his life to protecting our community is alarming,” said Commerce City Chief of Police Troy Smith. “The suspect poses a danger to all community members and must be identified and brought to justice.”

Police are searching for a suspect (photo attached) described as a white male in his late 40s/early 50s, with brown hair, thin build, wearing glasses and a black and white scarf around his neck.

“This individual is a menace to Commerce City and the surrounding area, and we want him out of our community. By attempting to murder one of our own, he has proven he is willing to kill someone with next to no provocation,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge Ken Croke. “Our hope is with the suspect’s information and the reward, someone will be able to provide his identity or whereabouts.”

Officers are still searching for the suspect’s vehicle, which is described as a late-90’s model maroon Nissan Pathfinder, with possible Colorado license plate of 679UNZ or 697UNZ. The vehicle may have minor right rear bumper damage and may have damage from the shots the officer fired at the vehicle.

"The FBI has contributed to the reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for the shooting of Officer Lord. For more than eight years, he has devoted himself to protecting residents of Commerce City. Officers who put their lives on the line to keep others safe shouldn't have to worry about their own protection," Thomas Ravenelle, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Denver Division said. "Police officers risk their lives every day to keep us safe, so we owe it to them to help find the individual responsible for shooting Officer Lord."

Anyone with information on this crime should Call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers720-913-STOP (7867) or Text 274637 (CRIMES) then title DMCS & enter your message. Wait, how many other instances are there of cops shooting themselves? I really don't have any problems with it if other cops want to shoot themselves too.

Actually, I do. If they fail to terminate their own worthless existences, they should be persecuted (we know they won't be prosecuted) to the fullest extent such that they eventually try again, the second time resulting in successful attainment of the mission objective.

We simply must not accept this sort of shoddy police work.

Did he fear for his safety when he shot himself?
Just shows he can't do anything right and how lousy a marksman he is.

He should have put on a dog costume and had another cop do the shooting.

They need better training and more practice.
