Huckabee’s Constitution Comments ‘Unreal’
Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said he wants to change the Constitution to be consistent with God’s word. ADL called the comments “unreal” and said Huckabee “keeps pushing the envelope further and further” in raising matters of faith on the campaign trail.

I wonder how this is any different than those he criticizes who want to live under "Islamic Law".

Yeah, Christian fundamentalists (at least in this era) don't kill women for not wearing a head covering outside, like some Muslim fundamentalists. Either way, they both are not good for freedom.

This nations forefathers were Christian Fundamentalists.... the very people who wrote the Consitution. I am glad to see Christians finally standing up for their rights, more power to them.

Yikes, i dunno what this BS is about christians finally standing up for their rights, seems to me like they've been doing pretty well, but i'm glad he's pushing the envelope though it'll hurt him in the end.

You are wrong on your first point. I think Jefferson and Paine would find those concepts duel-worthy.

There are no such things as collective rights. As an individual you have the right to have your opinions and beliefs, and to not be coerced into supporting opinions and beliefs you disagree with. This is freedom of expression, and when internalized is freedom of Religion.

"Amending the constitution to conform to the Bible" as a concepts creates some problems. Firstly, it invalidates your point that the authors of the constitution were, in fact, fundamentalists. If they were then the Constitution would have already been written conforming to God's Word. Secondly, coercing citizens to abide by a religious document, which the constitution would become if it were rewritten to conform to the Bible, would be a violation of the separation of church and state, even in its most loose application.

You realize that Huckabee didn't mean this. He was making a soundbyte that will play very well among SC voters. Ultimately, Huckabee is a big spending do gooder who has many plans and no way to pay for them all.

Look to the majority of the writers, and you will know the truth of my statement. Read the document and you will know the truth. Jefferson and Paine might not have considered themselves Christian Fundmentalists, but by the standards of today they would be labeled so. I am glad Huckabee is speaking up for Christians... there are few other groups in the United States that are more discriminated against... oh, and Jefferson NEVER suggested Seperation of Church and State... what a bunch of crap.

Ron Paul speaks the truth, that is why I like him... the truth is seldom easily found.. do your reseach.

The Huckster has an amazing ability to put his foot in his mouth with his "candid" responses to the issues in this campaign. Fortunately for him, the American public has a 45 second attention span and will probably forget all his faux pas long before election time. In the meantime, they are a continued source of free publicity. Given his lack of cash, these "gaffs"
are probably a campaign strategy on his part.

This is such utter nonsense. Read the writings of Jefferson, Madison, Thomas Paine, Franklin, etc about the Bible. Had the word existed at the time, they would have called themselves agnostics. Had Darwin been around, they would all be atheists.

{i'm a Christian}

What exactly does he want to change?

Honestly, this guy gets scarier and scarier.

Isn't that what our forefathers said not to do.....

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

HUCK-A-GIMMICK!

Has Ron Paul sued Huckleberry for grand theft of Ron Paul's Presidential Platform?

It amazes me how MIKE HUCKABEE goes from one GIMMICK to ANOTHER... in each state campaigns. GESUS.... how the voters in these states are so gullible!

PS: Doesn't HUCKABEE ever shutup? 5 minutes to answer YES or NO

Yes, poor christians, they have it so bad. We evil atheists are trying to hijack freedom over our own lives, even though Christians clearly know what is best for non-Christians.

GODDAMNIT I hate it when people keep saying ignorant crap like this. Go back to your high school junior year history class and learn about DEISTS because that's what a GOOD PORTION of the Founding Fathers were. Yeah, it was the Puritans that first landed in Plymouth, but by the Revolutionary War, there were plenty of great new AMERICAN philosophies and religious movements in place! The whole point of the First Amendment's religious practice, establishment clause, endorsement clause, assembly clause, free speech, press, etc. had VERY MUCH to do with the fact that in the 18th century Americas, there were quite a few DIFFERENT religious sects, and no, not ALL of them could be considered "Christian"! Deism was fairly agnostic about things.

Founding fathers who were likely Deists: Madison, Hammilton, Paine, Ethan Allen, and good ol' John Adams

Founding fathers who were likely influenced by Deism: Jefferson, Washington, and good ol' Ben Franklin (who some say claim more and more a Deist the longer he lived!)

Do your homework man. The word "Creator" and "GOD" and such in the US and various State constitution and various other documents does not equate to CHRISTIAN. I don't see a single reference to CHRIST in any of these documents, never have, and you'd be wont to ever find one.

Alright buddy...

It's spelled:

"Fundamentalists"
"Separation"
"Research"

Micah is an honest, strong Christian who endures a lot of crap from the likes of people like me for his beliefs. What he says here is flawless, and you dismissed it as if you heard him say something else. Consider the point he made, IF the Founding Fathers meant the Constitution to be written to conform to the will of GOD there would be no need to amend it.... do you understand that?

Regardless of what your version of history might tell you, one can simply see a logical flaw in the argument that the founder's intended something other than what is there... Is this not the same argument used to thwart others who disagree with certain provisions of the Constitution?

And here comes the classic quote of all time on Ron Paul Forums History:

the truth is seldom easily found

It is a new dawn. A new "Harvest of Plenty" with the main crops of ignorance, ineptitude, and incompetency served on a plate of silver fallacy.

The truth is often hard to admit, but it is rarely hard to find. That you have to search deep into the annals of revisionist history to find whatever version of American history you have created should be a wake-up call to you alone... not us.

Do Christian Fundamentalist drink? Oh right, they can ask for forgiveness on Sunday.

Name some of these fundamentalists so I can refute your point with their own words.

You speak from complete ignorance. Jefferson repudiated divine revelation and was a Deist. Paine was also a professed Deist and his last book was The Age of Reason, a fierce attack against Christianity. In fact this book is the only reason Paine is not on the same or higher level than George Washington in American modern history and culture!
