Accelerationism - Why Some Billionaires Are Actively Trying To Destroy The World

This is an ideology gaining in popularity amongst tech billionaires that the world is inevitably heading toward a collapse, and that instead of trying to prevent that collapse, we should rip off the band aid as fast as possible so we can get to the better world on the other side. While there’s a cold logic to it, it’s a dangerous philosophy that ignores the incalculable human suffering that such a collapse would create.

I haven't heard that term before... Accelerationism. I may have to start using that.

We've got a few of them in this forum as well. My problem with the accelerationists is what possible assurances do they have that after the fall, things will get better for individual liberty? And how long will that take? They often tell me how bad things are right now and we shouldn't compare the future to some utopia that doesn't exist now in reality. Ok... But as an American who has guns but has never had to fire one at a human, and someone who can buy a vast array of goods and services to satisfy nearly every need, I have read history books and I've looked around the world and I know it CAN get much worse. MUCH worse. And while I think I have properly prepared for the worst, I have children and grandchildren that live far away and they aren't as prepared as I am.

There are no assurances.

This is Malthusian claptrap all over again.

The climate cultists are kissing cousins to these people.

They'd be perfectly happy to watch billions die to fulfill their dream.

They're arrogant idiots. And presumptuous. Very presumptuous.

Or, they're plain ol' sociopaths.

I don't know how much Elon Musk is involved in "accelerationism", but he does seem to mention existential crisis a lot...

The fundamental existential question is whether humanity becomes sustainably multiplanetary before something happens on Earth to prevent that, for example nuclear war, a supervirus or population collapse that weakens civilization to the point where it loses the ability to send supply ships to Mars.
