Preston Bates, executive director of Liberty For All, said the Super PAC will be “very involved” in Massie’s campaign in the last weeks leading to the May 22 primary. “We plan to play a very significant role doing lots of things,” Bates told Pure Politics.

The SuperPac has offices in Austin, Texas and Bellevue, Ky. and has more than $199,000 on hand, donated by John Ramsey, who is listed as a “self-employed student” with the Federal Election Commission reports. The motto of Liberty For All is “It’s not Republican or Democratic. It’s neither liberal nor conservative. It’s freedom.”

Massie, the Lewis County Judge-Executive, is also supported by another SuperPAC, Americans for Growth, Opportunity and Prosperity Inc., which raised $20,722, and is based in Alexandria, according to the Federal Election Commission. Businessman Troy Sheldon of Alexandria serves as the group’s president. Union businessman Richard Knock also donated to AmeriGOP. The SuperPAC recently began a direct mail campaign attacking other Fourth District candidates Gary Moore and Alecia Webb-Edgington.

Another super PAC to support Massie

Another super political action committee will support Thomas Massie’s campaign for the Fourth Congressional District.

The Austin, Texas-based Liberty For All super PAC has opened an office in Bellevue and has six staff people calling voters and going door-to-door, said Preston Bates, a Louisville native who also volunteered for U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign in 2010.

Another super PAC, Americans for Growth, Opportunity and Prosperity(AmeriGOP) has already announced support of Massie and sent out a campaign mailer recently. Super PACs, unlike regular political action committees, can’t make direct contributions to a political candidate or party but can raise unlimited funds for political causes independent of campaigns.

Massie, who is the Lewis County judge-executive, is one of seven Republican candidates seeking the nomination for the Fourth Congressional District on May 22.

Some college students who support Ron Paul in his presidential campaign started Liberty For All this year in Austin and now have offices four locations in Texas, Bates said.

Massie’s campaign earned the endorsement of Paul and attracted the attention of Liberty For All members.

“We heard from our supporters that a candidate in Kentucky existed that met our principals and philosophies and could win,” Bates said.

Liberty For All has raised about $200,000, all from its 21-year-old founder John Ramsey, according to Federal Election Commission reports. Ramsey’s occupation on the reports is listed as a student.

While some have criticized super PACs in general for allowing unlimited political spending Bates said he believes PACs like Liberty For All can give young people a voice.

“We think it gives the little guy a place at the table,” Bates said. “Free people have the opportunity to raise money ourselves. Everybody has the opportunity to raise money. It gives little guys like us, Libertarian people, the ability to have an influence.”

Well, he did say:

“Everybody has the opportunity to raise money. It gives little guys like us, Libertarian people, the ability to have an influence."

And we know Libertarians are all drug addicts who want to feed your children heroin for breakfast, so...yeah....I see the connection.
